    You might also consider looking at "Homestar Runner" as well since they are quite popular. They've got t-shirts and DVD versions of their shorts for sale on a website.

    Frankly I don't see a future where the major players (studios, networks, etc) are completely absent or irrelevant. It will, however, become more common for them to recruit successful interest based entertainers.
